What can I expect at Riding Camp?


Twin Rivers is a great place for campers to improve their riding skills and learn all about horses.  We invite campers of all different levels of ability to this week-long day camp. Also new this summer, Equine Canada Rider Level Exams.  Click here for more details.


Each camp will run Monday to Friday, 3 hours per day (9 am until noon) and will be broken into two categories:


1.    Riding Lessons

2.    Horse Care and Stable Management


 

Parents are encouraged to drop off their children each day and are invited to stay on Friday of each week to watch the “Demonstration Day”.   Don’t forget to bring your camera!!!

How much does it cost?

Each session costs $300 + applicable taxes.


What will I learn?


Beginner/Intermediate:

  Groom a horse/pony and select proper tools.
  Put a saddle & bridle on a horse/pony.
  Take apart, clean and put back together a saddle and bridle.
  Adjust tack for a proper fit on the horse/pony.
  Wrap a horse/pony's legs - when and why.
  Halter and lead a horse/pony.
  Identify parts of a horse/pony (anatomy), breeds and colors.
  Learn how and what to feed a horse/pony.
  Stall cleaning and stable management (hands-on).
  JUST HAVE FUN!


Advanced Intermediate/Advanced:

More advanced horsemanship skills
Advanced riding skills on the ground, under saddle and over fences.
Lots of opportunity for jumping.


What should I wear?

Beginners - we recommend paddock boots or boots with a walking heel (one inch minimum) and breeches or long pants are required for all riding lessons.  Runners are not acceptable.  Riding helmets can be supplied by Twin Rivers but campers looking to continue riding are encouraged to purchase their own. 

Advanced and Intermediate – paddock boots, half chaps and riding helmets are a must.

Health Concerns?

Management must be informed of all allergies or health issues in advance.


Dropoff/Pickup

No camper will be released to anyone other than their indicated parent or guardian unless Twin Rivers has been informed.  All forms/waivers must be completed before the camp session so come a little early on the first daby.

Can I get a refund?

There are no refunds unless the spot is filled by another camp participant.  Twin Rivers reserves the right to cancel the camp if no less than 4 students are registered per session and in this case, full refunds are available.  For more information please feel free to contact Twin Rivers at 604-574-5481.

Which level is appropriate for my child?


Riding Ability:

Beginner:  (little or no riding experience)
Intermediate:  (can walk, improving trot and learning to canter, but needs to improve riding skills)
Advanced Intermediate:  (can walk, trot and canter, started jumping cross poles, has had some formal instruction)
Advanced:  (extensive previous experience and instruction, good form and control over fences)


Please note, to register for the Advanced Intermediate or Advanced session, an evaluation is required to best determine appropriate level.
